U.S. Air Force Arnold Engineering and Development Center (AEDC)

US Air ForceSince 2001, the 16 Foot Transonic (16T) Propulsion Wind Tunnel at AEDC has been using TestVIEW, the predecessor to Test SLATE, to perform aerodynamic evaluation testing for most of today's military flight programs. The capabilities of this facility are unmatched in the world; for example, imagine a Tomahawk cruise missile suspended in the 16 foot by 16 foot test section of a wind tunnel with the wind at near supersonic speeds. Then, imagine igniting its live, fueled engine, enabling it to exert thrust against its tethers into the wind generated by the massive tunnel fans. These tests, as well as automated aircraft model pitch-pause and continuous sweeps, are common for this facility. These entire processes are automatically sequenced and controlled by TestVIEW through a variety of complimentary hardware subsystems. In addition, using TestVIEW's "proceed when pre-defined conditions are met" functionality has enabled AEDC to minimize test time for each individual test run, greatly improving facility productivity and throughput.
